Wine Tasting in Marlborough, Wine Bars in Marlborough

With international winemaking experience, including time spent working in the Rhone Valley, Burgundy and Alsace in France, as well as consulting roles throughout California, Washington State and Canada, Liam has been the wine maker for every vintage of te P since the first release. Nothing’s changed, reflects Phillip MacDonald, father to te P Director and Proprietor Haysley. A special spot, in its own right, as part of the region and linked into the history and hearts of the people who live here. He joined te P in 2008, but he and Haysley had already been friends and business colleagues for many years.
Gareth’s previous business saw him develop vineyards for many growers around Marlborough. Back when it was occupied, the site was probably an island, ideally located to source plentiful kaimoana seafood and birdlife from the lagoon. Around 1350 AD, it is said, the first canoes rode the crashing waves of the Wairau Bar in to the Wairau river mouth. Driven by a bold vision of producing a range of premium New Zealand wines that would connect the taste of te P with wine lovers all over the world, Haysley planted his first vines on the Bar in 2003.
In the early 1800s, our mother’s people came to this area from Kapiti, in the lower North Island, and began living on the land we call home today. Hailing from Whangarei, Sam has known te P ’s Proprietor Haysley MacDonald and Chief Vintner Liam McElhinney for a number of years now, and leapt at the opportunity to join his mates and the rest of the te P team in mid 2015. He’s honed his Kiwi winemaking skills at wineries in Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough

Yet while we will always embrace change, we also remain bonded to our roots. It is said that all the tribes of New Zealand have links back to these first arrivals.
