What you should know about steadfast traditional sail
Laurence started sailing in the UK while working on a tops’l schooner restoration, and has never departed from his love of traditional sail. Grace loves to cook and bake, and particularly likes pleasing others with her wonderful creations. The spectacular scenery and abundant native wildlife are the perfect compliment to our traditional sailing cruises
Behind launching following our annual haul out final September, Tasha and I set sail for French Pass with a reef in the main, stays’l and jib, expecting 25 knots SW’Dy. Memorable places include the Paddock Rocks, Jag Rocks, Greville Barbour, Port Hardy, and the turbulent waters of the French Pass.
Sailing on Reliable offers so much in the way of aesthetic enjoyment the sea in all its moods the wind, sky, and temporary coastal landscape birds, seals, and dolphins and then there is the plain amusement of standing on the decks of this lovely 40 tonne gaff cutter below sail there is really nothing quite like it. This is a immense video of a trip we took together with Camille and Ali from piston out to French Pass and back. Bookings may be secured with a store of 30 of the complete value of the booking, with the balance payable 14 days prior sailing. It was a quiet start, but the wind did eventually reach and we had an exciting time getting up the coast and behind the Beef Barrels with the wind dead aft and fresh. Departing from the wharf in Elsmlie Bay French Pass, Reliable offers day and overnight cruises in Admiralty Bay and up and down the D’Orville Island coast.
Departing piston, we’ll explore some of the lovely bays of the inner sounds, active our way out toward Cook Strait and the outer Queen Charlotte Sound. Setting sail for the some of our notable places, we’ll receive advantage of the wind and enjoy a day on the water. We’ll develop sail handling routines and enjoy the immaculate recreation of just being at sea! Sailing conditions are typically anywhere from ghosting in light airs to bowling along lower a deep reef and stays’l, although one of the pleasing things about the sounds is the relatively flat water in all weather. Departing the wharf in piston, our day sails are an excellent way to enjoy the huge natural beauty of the Marlborough Sounds.
Her superb sailing characteristics and spontaneous charm, along with our sociable skipper and crew, will ensure a pleasurable and rewarding experience for all who sail with her
