Famed for its flagship wine, Elstree Cuv e Brut, its iconic Tuscan style tower overlooking the Wairau Valley, outstanding summer dining restaurant and beautiful cellar door, it’s not hard to see why Highfield is one of the most visited wineries in Marlborough. Focused on quality, head winemaker, Alistair Soper makes Highfield’s classic Marlborough wines with a commitment to consistent quality and style. Individual grape and soil characters are respected and reflected in the generous Highfield wines. Our vision is to share the delights of the outstanding Highfield range with wine lovers and wine learners on a global scale.

Highfield wines from the Wairau Valley area typically have intense fruit aromatics and fine minerality. He traditionally makes a little and focused range of wines Elstree Cu e Brut, Minot Nair, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanca and Riesling. The winery houses everything we need to provide our different wine styles, from fruit receival through to bottling. What a culinary treat your taste buds are in for! Highfield’s harvest of olives, figs, feijoa, pumpkin and David’s selection of herbs, seeds and edible plants bought together to an award-winning Michelin standard at Highfield terrain Vineyard Restaurant.
From the outset, Shin and Tom have had lofty aspirations for Highfield, establishing Elstree Cu e Brut as their flagship wine. Since then David has worked at Gibbs, Wither Hills and Marlborough Vintners restaurants and now we are overjoyed to have him unite us at Highfield terrain Vineyard Restaurant. During fermentation, hand plunging four times a day allows for affectionate extraction of color and tannin from the grape skins. The quality of the wine produced from these grapes encouraged the Walsh family to make and market wine under their own label.
Through this facility, we yield our Cuvee, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanca, Riesling and Minot coir. The grapes for this Chardonnay were carefully selected from Highfield’s Omaha and Wairau Valley vineyards. The Wairau River traces the foothills of the Richmond Ranges and has created the river flood plains of the valley over thousands of years, formed of light, stony soil which is key to the triumph of Marlborough’s world class style of Sauvignon Blanca. Wairau’ is the Maori word meaning many waters’ and is the name of the pretty braided river that runs alongside our largest vineyard feeding life into the vines and influencing the style of our wine.
The Highfield winery was established in 1991, since then it has been expanded and modernized and has an annual production capacity of 600 tonnes
