Sumner is a seaside suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, approximately a 15 minute 10 kilometre drive from the city centre with a population count of 3612 people as at the 2013 census. Nestled in a Port Hills valley, Sumner has its own microclimate and geography which enhances the peaceful diverse atmosphere of the rural setting at the back and the surfing beach at the front. This enables a unique opportunity on the edge of a busy city to be able to hear the sea crashing on the rocks and the sheep calling on the hills complemented by the Bellbirds and others singing a dawn chorus. Sumner’s appeal is therefore its diverse horticulture and broad variety of recreational activities including a range of walking and biking tracks in the surrounding hills which are a natural habitat to many wildlife and plants and breath taking views of the city with the mountains of the Southern Alps in the background.
The village has beauty, charm and character making it a popular destination with an interesting mix of clothes shops, delicatessens, restaurants and caf s and even its own little cinema and supermarket. It is a great safe place for children who frequent the popular swimming beach and pool, and play along the iconic landmarks. It is well served by public transport providing opportunities for tourists and a connection to the city. For some being able to park your car on a Friday and not use it until Monday morning was a draw card for residents, as most facilities are within walking distance.

We travel regularly and were very glad with the standard of accommodation offered at this apartment. The kitchen was so healthy set up that we ate in both nights and thoroughly enjoyed preparing our meals. Our apartment is centrally located so that the total of Sumner is close on foot and it offers a touch of luxury to recharge your batteries.
Decor is ultra modern and very chic, the kitchen is beautifully equipped with extravagant crockery, the bathrooms are sparkling clean, and the whole apartment is unbelievably spacious. The BBQ on the covered veranda was begging to be old and the private veranda on the main bedroom a charming spot for a private early morning cuppa. The weather was spectacular for our short terminate in piston so we walked to Waikawa Bay back and then enjoyed the views from your balcony with a appropriate book each on Saturday. Choose to stay at No 8 Admiralty Court, Sumner, a holiday apartment in the funky sea side village near Christchurch or 301 Oxley’s Rock, piston, located at the South Island gateway to the North Island in the stunning Marlborough Sounds.
You’ll find enough of ca s where you can appreciate huge coffee and watch the passers by. Our party of four had an outstanding stay at the lovely and well willing Oxley’s Rock apartment. 8 Admiralty Court on mariner Street is located in the heart of Sumner with its wide variety of distinctive shops and lively restaurants. The Marlborough Sounds are a favorite holiday destination for Kiwis and visitors and produce enough of opportunity for fishing, tramping, cycling and boating. Succeeding the earthquakes, Christchurch tautahi has re emerged as a vibrant, ever temporary city.
We enjoyed having a fully equipped kitchen too as were looking forward to making some meals for ourselves behind 2 weeks of hotel restaurant fare. The kitchen in exceptional was extremely healthy stocked with a vast selection of quality crockery and cutlery. Christchurch’s own seaside suburb is perfectly placed for enjoying the outdoor life swimming, cycling or tramping the Port Hills. Walk along the beach to Scarborough and receive the path over the hill to the beautiful bay of Taylor Mistake or resist the surf with the locals.
Would support to any discerning traveler wanting a marvelous deposit to stay. Sumner has a unique, raffish character all its own and is popular with residents of Christchurch only 15 minutes away by vehicle and visitors alike. Sumner is only 15 minutes from central Christchurch by vehicle and makes an excellent center from which to explore the South Island
